Existing WWTP has been expanded and upgraded by installation of high rate anaerobic IC type reactor. Majority of organic pollution is converted into biogas by granular sludge producing energatically rich biogas and the loading of downstream aerobic treatment is reduced. Biogas is utilized for electricity production making the electricity balance of WWTP positive. Aerobic treatment has been substantially reduced within the project, despite increased capacity of the plant. Sludge handling costs reduction is also accompanied with anaerobic process implementation.
