Car washes are more friendly to the water than cleaning cars at home
Do you wash the car on the sidewalk in front of the house? If you thought you would save water and the environment in this way, you were wrong.
Come and see the benefits of car cleaning at a commercial car wash with us.
First point: you can save water and energy using car wash
Consumption of water for one commercial car wash ranges from 64 to 261 liters of water. With about 5 minutes of washing time, some people may consider it beeing too much.
This amount, however, corresponds to the consumption of water during the domestic washing of a car using a hose.
In some cases, water consumption during the 10-minute wash of your car at home can climb up to 320 liters.
The International Automobile Manufacturers Association distinguishes their three basic types:
-
stationary "in-bay" car wash
-
car wash with sliding rail
-
self-service car wash unit
According to a survey of this association from 2002, the least amount of water consumes a self-service car wash unit, about 68 liters per wash cycle.
Second point: car wash stations process waste water more considerately
A major problem of domestic washing of cars is also the leakage of water contaminated with soap, oil and heavy metals directly into the sewarage system.
This contamined water then easily enters the nearby river or water basin where it can harm aquatic animals and pollute the surrounding nature.
If you decide to wash your car at home do so on the lawn. Soil serves as a natural filter and water is then drained to sewarage system free of majority of hazardous substances.
On contrary, all commercial car washes must adhere to strict rules on further handling of such contaminated wastewater. Most of them must therefore send their waste water to the municipal wastewater treatment plant.
In addition, each of the commercial car washes must have a special filtering device that removes all chemical impurities, oil and heavy metals from the trapped water.
Third point: car washes use phosphate-free soaps
Some of the automotive detergents may contain hazardous chemicals that endanger human health and the environment.
Regular and unregulated discharges of water that is contaminated with phosphate-based soap risk an uncontrollable overgrowth of algae in surrounding waterways or water stands.
The lack of sunlight and oxygen, as well as the production of toxins, caused by algal reproduction, often result in the mass extinction of fish.
Technologies used to trap and treat wastewater prevent frequent ecological disasters on watercourses.
Putting your car into a car wash is therefore smarter not only because of consumption of water but also way more environmentally friendly.
